Tarike Firew is a 10 year-old girl who lives in Hawassa with her parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. Tarike was born with legs that weren’t properly formed and so she is unable to walk. But despite the challenges that came with this, Tarike proves that she is capable of doing what her peers can do and even more. Tarike goes to school and she is currently in the 3rd grade. However, her sisters have to carry Tarike on their backs to take her to and from school.
This young girl also has a job where she braids girls’ hair at a nearby church. Again, Tarike goes here only with the help of her family, with them carrying her on their backs.
What Tarike’s family needs from Emmanuel Ability Center is a wheelchair that we plan to have approved by CURE Children’s Hospital. Emmanuel strongly emphasizes on the need to make sure that any equipment we give is perfectly suited for the comfort and perhaps recovery of every beneficiary. So we first brought Tarike from Hawassa with her father and she was able to get a checkup at CURE Children’s Hospital. We are pleased to share that she has been scheduled for surgery in May.
We are also happy to say that Emmanuel has also provided a wheelchair for Tarike. Her father was beyond grateful and overcome with joy.
Please consider supporting Emmanuel Ability Center by donating or becoming a member so that we can reach even more people and advance our mission to alleviate the lives of PwDs in Ethiopia.
