Nebiat Alula is a man in his early 40s who lives in Summit with his wife, Tigist, and second child, Amen. His wife is also expecting her third child in a few weeks. Nebiat lost both his legs due to a car accident that happened 5 years ago in Dire Dawa. He and his family used to live there before they came to Addis Ababa for financial reasons. They were hoping to find his grandmother in Addis, however, she had passed away and they were left with no support.

Nebiat earns a little money by mending and cleaning shoes around his house but it is barely enough to make ends meet. What Nebiat and his family need now is a home. Their current place was given to them by people who saw their conditions and wanted to help. However, the house isn’t suitable to live in, especially with Tigist’s pregnancy. They constantly have to deal with problems like flooding and mice and have no access to electricity. During the winter, Nebiat is unable to even move because of the cold and rain that is barely kept out by their home. They also have a 6-year old son, their first child, who still lives in Dire Dawa. They long to have him live with them but are unable to do so due to their living conditions. And on top of all this, they’ve been told that their house will be taken down soon.

Emmanuel Ability Centre is calling on you to help Nebiat and his family secure a place they can call their home. Whether it be through sponsorships, donations, or any other way, please do not hesitate to contact us.
