This is Haimanot. Haimanot is a single mother living with her 13-year-old son, Yeabsira. Yeabsira cannot walk and he also has autism. It was 2 months after Yeabsira was born that Haimanot discovered something wrong when his legs started shaking due to nerve damage. This damage became the reason for his inability to walk now. Then at 4 months, Yeabsira was diagnosed as a special-need child with autism. He also occasionally has seizures.

All this makes Yeabsira fully dependent on his mother. She is the one who takes him from place to place, feeds him, and cleans him up. She also can’t afford to buy diapers, so she always has to wash his bed sheets. Haimanot, being the sole provider for herself and her son, gets her income from doing laundry. Since she can’t leave him alone at home, Haimanot chose to do this work because she could wash the clothes from home and stay by his side. However, that didn’t solve all their problems. On top of attending to Yeabsira’s every need, Haimanot had to wash piles of clothes everyday just to make ends meet. Seeing this, Emmanuel Ability Center decided to gift Haimanot with a washing machine. This machine not only helped Haimanot earn more money, but it also relieved her of much of her exhaustion. Haimanot was grateful for receiving the washing machine and expressed her gratitude to everyone in the EAC family who had a role to play.
